Healthy sexuality is a journey, not a destination. The above goals are intended to describe a direction for growth, not a criteria for judging anyone's sexuality as healthy or unhealthy.

Healthy sexuality is supported by the cultural movement to become more sex-positive as a society. Some principles of this cultural shift include the following:

• Sexual expression between consenting adults is a basic human right.
  
• People deserve straightforward information about both sexual health and full enjoyment of sexual pleasure.
• People should not be shamed or judged for consensual choices on how to have sex, who to have sex with, or how one defines their sexual identity or orientation.
